Storm Performance Volleyball’s 17’s Gold National Team Crowned Champions at Cross Court Tournament

The Storm Performance Volleyball 17’s Gold National Team emerged victorious at the prestigious Cross Court tournament, securing an impressive 6-0 record and claiming the top spot among 55 competing teams. Under the guidance of head coach Bryce Earl, the team showcased their exceptional skills and unwavering determination throughout the weekend.

The tournament kicked off with a thrilling match against Katy United, where the 17’s fought back from a 19-25 loss in the second set to clinch the victory with a 25-23 win in the first and a 15-12 triumph in the deciding set. This momentum carried them through their next two matches, as they dominated Tx Infinity (25-14, 25-15) and Southern Swing (25-18, 25-11) in straight sets.

Facing Nola Hannah, the team encountered a minor setback, dropping the first set 23-25. However, they quickly regrouped and showcased their resilience, bouncing back with a commanding 25-12 win in the second set and sealing the match with a 15-11 victory in the third. The team’s cohesion and mental fortitude were on full display as they swept CCJ 17 in the semifinals (25-19, 25-19), setting the stage for an electrifying championship match against TGV Adidas.

In the finals, the Storm Performance 17’s Gold National Team delivered a stunning performance. Led by the offensive prowess of outside hitter Isabella Garcia (13 kills) and opposite Talia Rodriguez (7 kills), the team took the first set 25-16. Despite losing the second set 21-25, they refused to let the setback define the match. Middle hitter Abigail Kelly’s impressive 0.55 attack percentage and 7 digs, along with setter Melanee Garcia’s 17 assists, propelled the team to a thrilling 15-11 victory in the deciding set, ultimately securing the championship title.

Throughout the tournament, every player on the Storm Performance 17’s Gold National Team made significant contributions. Defensive specialist Ashley Armstrong showcased her passing skills with a 2.4 receive pass percentage, while libero Hollie Santos anchored the defense with a tournament-leading 65 digs. Setter Ashlyn Kelly demonstrated her versatility, recording 22 digs and 60 assists across the tournament. Middle hitter Trinity Anscombe contributed timely kills and blocks and opposite Mailey Hardin provided crucial support with Ashby McCracken out this weekend with an injury.

The championship victory at the Cross Court tournament is a testament to the dedication, skill, and teamwork of our17’s Gold National Team. With an overall tournament attack percentage of 0.18, 19 service aces, and 222 digs, the team’s well-rounded performance was a key factor in their success.
